A BBL or Skinny BBL, Planned Around Your Frame

Performed awake by Dr. Giselle, using your own fat, in an accredited surgical facility.

A Brazilian butt lift moves fat from areas you would like slimmer, such as the abdomen, flanks or thighs, to the buttocks for a fuller, more lifted shape. A skinny BBL is the same procedure planned for a slimmer frame, with less fat transferred for a subtler shape. Dr. Giselle will help you decide which one suits you best.

Which Is Right for You

BBL or Skinny BBL?

Both move your own fat to the buttocks. The difference is how much fat is transferred, where it's placed, and the final silhouette.

Fuller shape

BBL

Fat is harvested with awake liposuction from areas you would like slimmer and transferred to the buttocks, for a fuller, more lifted shape and a more balanced figure.

  • Your own fat, from areas such as the abdomen, flanks or thighs
  • More fat transferred
  • Planned for a fuller, rounder shape

Subtler shape

Skinny BBL

The same procedure, planned for a slimmer frame. Less fat is transferred, for a subtler shape.

  • The same awake procedure
  • Less fat transferred
  • A subtler change in shape

No need to decide which approach is right for you before you come in. Dr. Giselle will talk you through everything and tailor a plan to best complement your frame, the fat available to transfer, and the shape you want.

Why Exert BodySculpt

How Dr. Giselle Performs a BBL

Awake, with your own fat, in an accredited surgical facility.

  • 01

    Awake, under local anesthesia

Your BBL is performed awake, under local anesthesia, rather than under general anesthesia. Nitrous oxide and oxygen, with anti‑anxiety and anti‑nausea medication, keep you comfortable. You'll feel like you've had a few glasses of wine: in a bit of a haze, but still able to communicate with the team throughout your procedure.

  • 02

    Fat placed above the muscle

Dr. Giselle places the fat above the muscle rather than below it. This approach is frequently referred to as a Safe BBL, and it reduces the risk of fat embolism, a potentially life‑threatening complication of a BBL.

  • 03

Two areas reshaped in one procedure

The fat comes from areas you would like slimmer, such as the abdomen, flanks or thighs. It is harvested with awake liposuction through tiny incisions, the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen. Once the fat is removed, those areas are contoured as well, with Renuvion skin tightening included.

  • 04

    One surgeon, start to finish

Your consultation, pre and post ops, and procedure will all be handled directly by Dr. Giselle, supported by her surgical team.

  • 05

    An accredited surgical facility

Your procedure takes place in an accredited surgical facility with 4 surgical bays and 4 recovery rooms, rather than a hospital.

Recovery

What BBL Recovery Looks Like

Recovering from a BBL is a bit different from recovering from liposuction alone, mainly because you will need to keep pressure off your buttocks during the initial recovery period. Detailed instructions, call and text support, and pillows and aftercare products are provided to every patient.

  1. 1

    The first week

Rest, and keep pressure off your buttocks and lower body: no sitting or lying on your back. Swelling, bruising and discomfort are expected. Plan for someone to drive you home and to help with daily tasks.

  2. 2

    From about two weeks

Most patients begin to feel better and may return to work and light activities, but still avoid sitting directly on the buttocks.

  3. 3

    Weeks three and four

Sitting on a cushion or special pillow may be possible. You still avoid pressure on the buttocks, and you keep wearing your compression garment.

  4. 4

    Six to eight weeks

Most patients resume everyday activities, while still avoiding strenuous exercise or anything that puts stress on the buttocks.

Compression garments are provided, and Dr. Giselle and her team will review how to wear them and for how long. Recovery varies between individuals, but most patients follow the schedule above.

Questions

BBL & Skinny BBL, Answered

What is the difference between a BBL and a skinny BBL?

A skinny BBL is the same procedure as a BBL, planned for a slimmer frame. Less fat is transferred, for a subtler change in shape. In both, fat is harvested with awake liposuction and transferred to the buttocks.

Which one suits you depends on your frame, how much fat is available to transfer, and the shape you want. Unsure which is better for you? Dr. Giselle will review your options and help you decide.

Who is a good candidate for a BBL?

Good candidates are adults 18 and over in good general health, with enough fat in areas such as the hips, thighs or lower abdomen to transfer, good skin tone in the hips and buttocks, and realistic expectations.

There is no fixed amount of fat that has to be transferred. Dr. Giselle will help you decide the right volume for your body shape and goals. If you have a slimmer frame, a skinny BBL may be the better fit. Candidacy is confirmed only after Dr. Giselle evaluates you in person and/or via photo submission.

What happens during a BBL?

Before your procedure, you'll receive pre-operative instructions, which may include stopping certain medications, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and arranging transportation and help at home.

During your procedure, fat is harvested from areas such as the abdomen, flanks or thighs, through tiny incisions only a few millimeters long, the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen. The fat is processed and purified, leaving healthy, viable fat cells for the transfer. Dr. Giselle then places the fat in the buttocks, above the muscle, using a series of small injections at varying depths for an even distribution. The incisions are closed with sutures and a compression garment is applied to minimize swelling and support healing.

Am I awake for a BBL?

Yes. Your BBL is performed awake, under local anesthesia, rather than under general anesthesia. You'll breathe a mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen, and you'll also be given anti-anxiety and anti-nausea medication.

We typically tell patients it will feel like they've had a few glasses of wine: they're in a bit of a haze, but still able to communicate with the team.

Is a BBL safe?

Here at Exert, Dr. Giselle performs Safe BBLs, which means the fat is placed above the muscle instead of below it. That reduces the risk of fat embolism, a potentially life-threatening complication of a BBL. A BBL is surgery, and every surgery carries risk.

General surgery risks include infection, asymmetry, blood clots and scarring. Patients are encouraged to walk and move around as soon as possible after the procedure, which helps reduce the risk of blood clots. Following your pre- and post-operative instructions carefully matters. Dr. Giselle will go through the risks, and how she manages any complications, during your consultation.

When can I sit down after a BBL?

Not directly on your buttocks for at least the first two weeks. In weeks three and four, sitting on a cushion or special pillow may be possible, while still avoiding pressure on the buttocks, and most patients resume everyday activities after six to eight weeks.

The time spent keeping pressure off your buttocks is the main reason recovery from a BBL takes longer than recovery from liposuction alone. A detailed post-op recovery guide is provided to every patient, along with 24/7 access to our medical team and routine follow-up visits. Recovery timelines largely depend on how well patients follow their post-op care instructions.

How long do BBL results last?

Because a BBL uses your own fat, the fat that is transferred can integrate with the surrounding tissue. Results may vary with weight changes and aging, but with proper care they can last several years.

Dr. Giselle will give you a realistic picture of what to expect at your consultation.

How much does a BBL cost?

Every BBL is quoted individually. The price depends on the volume of fat harvested and transferred, your medical history, BMI, aesthetic goals, and any additional procedures. You'll receive a personalized quote after Dr. Giselle's evaluation. Quotes are typically provided during consultations, which are offered in person and virtually.

Financing is available through Cherry, CareCredit, PatientFi, and Affirm. Approval, terms, and rates are set by the lender. We also offer an interest‑free, in‑house financing option. Ask one of our care coordinators for details.

Can men have a BBL?

Yes. The fat transfer technique is the same for men and women, but the goals usually differ. A male BBL typically aims for a more sculpted, athletic shape, often with more emphasis on the upper part of the buttocks. Dr. Giselle plans each one around the patient's own build and goals.
