The Options, Plainly

Hyaluronic acid

A gel-like substance that occurs naturally in the body, used to add volume to areas such as the lips and cheeks and to smooth fine lines. Includes Juvederm, Restylane, and Belotero.

Radiesse

Calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres, used to add volume to the cheeks, jawline, and chin, and to improve the appearance of smile lines.

Sculptra

Poly‑L‑lactic acid, which works by stimulating your own collagen production to restore volume and improve skin texture over time.

Your own fat

For fat transfer, the material is you. Harvested from an area you want slimmer, purified, and placed where volume is wanted.

For fat transfer: small incisions, fat harvested with a fine cannula, purified, then injected in layers so the result sits evenly. Performed under local anesthesia. For filler, it is a short in-office appointment.

Recovery
Swelling and bruising in both the harvest and placement areas for fat transfer, settling over the following weeks. Compression where fat was taken. Filler generally involves little to no downtime.

Volume settles as swelling resolves and the transferred fat establishes itself. Dr. Giselle will tell you honestly when to expect to see the real result. Individual results vary.

What is the difference between fat transfer and filler?

Fat transfer uses your own fat: it is removed from an area you would rather have slimmer, purified, and placed where you want more volume. Filler is a gel that is injected to add volume or smooth an area, with nothing harvested and a much shorter appointment.

One reshapes two areas at once. The other is a quicker, lower-commitment way to add volume.

How long does fat transfer last compared to filler?

Fat transfer lasts longer than filler. Because it uses your own tissue rather than a gel, it integrates with your body instead of being gradually broken down and absorbed.

How long results last varies from person to person, and we will not put a number on it. Dr. Giselle will give you an honest picture at your consultation.

Which areas can be treated?

Fat is typically harvested from areas such as the abdomen, thighs, or hips using our Xpress liposuction technique, then placed where additional volume is wanted.
