What actually happens during a labiaplasty?

It is an outpatient procedure that reshapes the labia minora, the inner lips. It usually takes somewhere between an hour and an hour and a half, and it is normally performed under local anesthesia so you can go home the same day.

The sutures dissolve on their own, so nothing has to be removed afterwards.

Is there more than one technique?

Yes, and the right one depends on your anatomy and what you want to change. The trim technique reshapes along the edge of the labia minora and is used where there is more tissue to reduce. The wedge technique removes a V of tissue and rejoins the edges, which keeps the natural border. A combination of the two is sometimes the better answer.

Dr. Giselle will walk you through which she would recommend for you, and why, in plain language.

Is labiaplasty painful?

Most patients are more comfortable than they expected. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, and general anesthesia is available if you would rather be asleep, and that is your choice, not ours. Afterwards, discomfort is typically manageable, and you will be given medication and clear instructions to take home.

How long does recovery take?

Recovery is gradual over several weeks rather than a matter of days. Swelling settles progressively, and you will have follow-up appointments so we can check on your healing along the way.

We would rather not give you a number that turns out not to apply to you. At your consultation Dr. Giselle will walk you through what recovery realistically looks like for your situation, including when it is safe to return to exercise and intimacy.

Will anyone know I had this done?

Your privacy matters to us. Your consultation, your records, and your care are completely confidential.

How do I know if I am a good candidate?

The best way to find out is to have a conversation with Dr. Giselle. There is no obligation, and she will give you an honest answer, including if she thinks this is not the right step for you.

Is this covered by insurance?

Labiaplasty is typically considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance. We are happy to talk through payment options during your consultation.
